The Division of Hospital-Based Medicine is the largest division at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (Feinberg) at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago (Lurie Children’s). Pediatric Hospitalists staff multiple areas of the hospital, including general pediatric inpatient wards, an observation unit, newborn nursery, a procedural sedation service, surgical consultation service, convenient care, urgent care, pediatric intensive care unit and two neonatal intensive care units.
The Division’s faculty, comprised of 41 Pediatric Hospitalists onsite at Lurie Children's and 68 at affiliate outreach sites, is committed to the training of medical students and residents. All Pediatric Hospitalists are actively involved in student education at Feinberg and in housestaff training at Lurie Children’s. They have a supervisory role in both core rotations as well as hospitalist-specific electives. Faculty members also serve as mentors and advisors for many trainees.
There is no fellowship associated with this division.
The field of hospital-based medicine is rapidly growing. Pediatric Hospitalists at Lurie Children’s have a growing presence in the field, and present at many national conferences and organizations. Their dedication to academic productivity is fostered in part by a hospital-wide commitment to being a leader in the field.
Our Division is focused on the care of acutely ill patients in the hospital setting. Providing those patients with the best care is the Division’s first priority.
