The Division of Hospital-Based Medicine is the largest division at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (Feinberg) at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago (Lurie Children’s). Pediatric Hospitalists in our Downtown Division staff the general pediatric inpatient wards, a 10-bed observation unit, the newborn nursery and chorioamnionitis unit at Prentice Women's Hospital, a sedation service, a convenient care center, a pediatric intensive care unit and two neonatal intensive care units. Faculty in our Outreach Division staff more than 10 community hospitals in the Chicagoland area. Clinical services include inpatient coverage, newborn nursery, emergency room consultations, labor and delivery, and neonatal intensive care.
The Division’s faculty, comprised of over 40 Pediatric Hospitalists onsite at Lurie Children's and more than 50 at affiliate outreach sites, is committed to the training of medical students, residents, and fellows. All Pediatric Hospitalists are actively involved in student education at Feinberg and in housestaff training at Lurie Children’s. They have a supervisory role in both core rotations as well as hospitalist-specific electives. Faculty members also serve as mentors and advisors for many trainees.
The Division of Hospital-Based Medicine offers a 2-year Pediatric Hospital Medicine fellowship. The program accepts 1 fellow per year. Applicants may use the common PHM fellowship application available at PHMfellows.org. Candidates participate in the National Resident Matching Program.
The field of pediatric hospital medicine is rapidly growing. At Lurie Children’s, we are committed to advancing hospital-based care by contributing to the expansion of knowledge in optimal inpatient care for children. Faculty are actively engaged in scholarly pursuits that include cutting-edge research in health services, outcomes, clinical care, quality, medical education and global health. Their dedication to academic productivity is fostered by a hospital-wide commitment to being a leader in the field.
Our Division is focused on the care of acutely ill patients in the hospital setting. Providing those patients with the best care is our Division’s first priority.
