Research Activities

Research activities of the division fall into several areas with major emphasis on both clinical and bench research. Currently we are investigating:

  • several aspects of Kawasaki Disease, including studies relating to etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment;
  • clinical and laboratory-based studies of maternal, adolescent and pediatric HIV infection;
  • pathogenesis and therapy of Epstein-Barr virus, MRSA, and Streptococcus pneumoniae infections;
  • epidemiology and antibiotic resistance of Group A streptococcal pharyngitis;
  • pharmacokinetics and clinical evaluation of new antibiotics and safety and immunogenicity of vaccines;
  • clinical aspects of chronic fatigue syndrome; and
  • basic biology of herpes simplex virus
