Research activities of the division fall into several areas with major emphasis on both clinical and bench research. Currently we are investigating: - several aspects of Kawasaki Disease, including studies relating to etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment;
- clinical and laboratory-based studies of maternal, adolescent and pediatric HIV infection;
- pathogenesis and therapy of Epstein-Barr virus, MRSA, and Streptococcus pneumoniae infections;
- epidemiology and antibiotic resistance of Group A streptococcal pharyngitis;
- pharmacokinetics and clinical evaluation of new antibiotics and safety and immunogenicity of vaccines;
- clinical aspects of chronic fatigue syndrome; and
- basic biology of herpes simplex virus
