Medical Students

StudentsThe pediatric medical student clerkship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (Feinberg) offers a variety of educational opportunities in inpatient and outpatient settings. Through the pediatric clerkship, third- and fourth-year students develop an understanding of the process of growth and child development, learn to treat the common diseases of childhood, and experience diverse work environments at multiple clinical sites in the Chicagoland area. With excellent teaching from faculty and residents, students consistently rate it among the top educational experiences of the clinical years.

Medical Student Eligibility and Registration

Third-year clerkships are available only to Feinberg students. Medical student rotations at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago (Lurie Children’s) are arranged through the Registrar’s Office at Feinberg.

Visiting student information can be found here.  International students wishing to schedule a visiting rotation should contact the International Office. Please also review the list of Global Partner Institutions.  For more information, contact the office via email at intoff@northwestern.edu.

Please see the Augusta Webster Office of Medical Education website for information, forms, visiting student elective catalog, and directions that are required to complete the process of requesting an elective.

Pediatrics Interest Group

The Pediatrics Interest Group (PIG) is a student-led organization with a goal to increase student awareness and appreciation for the field of pediatrics through sponsored events, volunteer opportunities, and early student exposure to mentoring with participating Lurie Children’s hospital physicians. Faculty advisors with expertise in pediatric research, hospital- and community-based medicine assist PIG student leaders in hosting an exciting year of various opportunities for participating medical students.

Past events planned have included a bone marrow drive, informative lunch talks with invited pediatric speakers, an annual medical student-pediatric faculty dinner event, student tours of Lurie Children’s and multiple shadowing opportunities. In addition, PIG leaders encourage collaboration with other student-led groups at Feinberg to provide additional volunteer opportunities to assist the children of Chicago, such as the Chicago Youth Program and Camp Wildcat.

PIG advisors are Nichell Tidwell, MD and Natalia Henner, MD.
