My 2006 research demonstrating that a coach-led neuromuscular warm-up can significantly reduce knee injuries in girls soccer and basketball players at Chicago Public High Schools won two awards in 2009, one for best overall research at the AMerican Medical Association for SPorts Medicine annual meeting and one for best sports medicine research at the American Academy of Pediatrics annual meeting. In conjunction with biomedical engineers in our Motion Analysis Center, I used 3D motion analysis to investigate the role of pitching technique on the risk of overuse injuries in youth pitchers. I also collaborate with a Dr. Neeru Jayanthi, a sports medicine colleague at Loyola in investigating injury risks assopciated with early sports specialization in young athletes. With the rest of our Lurie sports medicine team, I am currently researching age-appropriate clinical evaluation tools, treatment strategies, and short- and long-term outcomes for sports-related concussions.[Shorten text]
