Welcome to the Division of Critical Care Medicine.  Our goal is to provide high quality, state-of-the-art care to the critically ill infants and children in our 42-bed pediatric intensive care unit/cardiac intensive care unit.  Our clinical mission is complemented by our commitment to comprehensive critical care fellowship training, innovative research, and advocacy for the needs of our patients.

Multidisciplinary teams provide care, and include physicians, advanced-practice nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers, child life specialists, and numerous other providers. A comprehensive range of medical and surgical specialties are based at Children’s Memorial Hospital.  Numerous services direct care to our intensive care unit, including a busy metropolitan emergency room, an active transport system, a Level I trauma program, large cardiovascular and pediatric surgery programs, pediatric ECMO service, and transplant programs.  The newly-remodeled intensive care unit has state-of-the-art technology, patient monitoring, and clinical information systems.  Special programs include cardiac critical care, neurointensive care, and pulmonary habilitation.

Children’s Memorial Hospital is the largest provider of hospital services for children in metropolitan Chicago.  Children’s Memorial is a principal affiliate of Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and is the primary educational site for Northwestern’s pre- and post-graduate programs in pediatrics.  The current campus is located in Lincoln Park, 3 miles north of the Loop, close to parks, the zoo, local universities, and Lake Michigan.  A new hospital is under construction to be opened in 2012 in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago, close to the rest of the medical school.   It will be home to one of the largest pediatric critical care units in the nation.
