Medical Genetics & Genomics Program

The two-year ACGME-accredited categorical Medical Genetics and Genomics residency program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine prepares physicians for board certification in medical genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics. The program is designed to train physicians to be independent clinical geneticists who are:

  • Proficient in providing comprehensive medical genetics services.
  • Capable of initiating and collaborating in basic and applied research activities.
  • Effective in teaching and communicating their expertise to others.
  • Equipped to lead within the medical genetics and genomics community.

Graduates of the program will leave with expertise across a wide variety of genetic disorders and be prepared to pursue a range of careers, including positions in academia, public health, advocacy and industry.

Trainees will work in multidisciplinary teams that include genetic counselors, advanced practice providers, dieticians and social workers. The majority of training will be completed at the top-ranked Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital
