Nephrology

The Division of Nephrology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics is dedicated to education, research and improving patient care related to children with acute or chronic kidney problems and disorders of bone and mineral metabolism. Patient care is prvided through our clinical affiliate at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.

The Division of Nephrology is dedicated to improving optimal patient outcomes by providing state of the art care for their conditions, and in performing high quality basic, translational and clinical research for those same conditions in order to develop a personalized medicine approach to pediatric kidney diseases."

What We Do

Research

The division has a wide-range of funded research, from basic mechanisms in understanding the progression of chronic kidney disease, applied translational research in proteomics and biomarkers, and including state-of-the-art clinical trials of new therapeutic agents. Our faculty and fellows present regularly at conferences around the world dedicated to kidney diseases. Our work has fostered new approaches to diagnosis and treatment of kidney disorders. Education

Our division's faculty provide leading-edge education for undergraduate students, graduate students, medical students, residents and fellows in all aspects of the science of pediatric nephrology. In the clinical arena, faculty provide trainees instruction and exposure to the diagnosis and care related to kidney disease and kidney transplants. The division offers accredited fellowships annually.

Patient Care

Through our affiliate, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, the division's faculty provide patient care for pediatric kidney disorders and transplant. U.S. News & World Report ranks Lurie Children's 7th in the nation for pediatric nephrology. The Siragusa Transplantation Center, was the first in the Midwest to perform a pediatric kidney transplant, is the largest program of its kind in Illinois and among the nation’s leaders, performing more than 580 kidney transplants since its inception in 1964.
