My current research involves studying the informed consent process for children participating in research and for parents making decisions for their children, evaluating disparities in research enrollment and participation, and in the use of medico-legal partnerships to address the social determinants of health. Additional interests include the role for conflict resolution training to improve communication in the ICU, evaluating health care access in relation to health outcomes, addressing health disparities, and communication around brain death.[Shorten text]

Academic Focus

My long-term goal is to engage in interdisciplinary research, advocacy and policy development using evidence-based, stakeholder-informed, and ethically-minded practices to improve the health of children through the identification and reduction of health disparities in the clinical and research settings and the promotion of practices to address the social determinants of health that can create barriers to achieving equitable and optimal health.

Clinical Focus

I practice pediatric critical care medicine. I am particularly interested in team and family communication, resolving conflicts arising in the intensive care setting, and issues related to brain death and organ donation.
